Charles Leclerc is setting his sights on another memorable weekend at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. With Ferrari’s new engine upgrade, the Monegasque driver is hopeful of delivering a historic performance on the team’s home turf. As the Italian Grand Prix approaches, Leclerc is determined to make the most of the ADUO (Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities) allowance, which includes significant changes to the power unit.
The Temple of Speed holds a special place in Leclerc’s heart, with past victories in 2019 and 2024 serving as some of his most cherished memories. As he prepares to face tough competition Leclerc remains optimistic about the potential of the new engine to close the gap with their rivals.
Ferrari’s Engine Upgrade: A Game Changer?
Leclerc acknowledges that the new engine will bring a boost in power although the exact magnitude remains to be seen. ‘It will have a bit more power, which is always a good thing,’ he stated. ‘How much more power? Only time will tell.’ The Monegasque driver is well aware of the challenges ahead, particularly on a track like Monza, which favors high-speed performance.
Despite the engine being Ferrari’s weak point Leclerc is confident that the upgrade will help them close the gap with their competitors. ‘To do a step forward will help us close a little bit the gap to the guys in front,’ he explained. The new engine, along with other updates to the car, is expected to put pressure on their rivals.
The Importance of Perfect Execution
Leclerc emphasized the need for perfect execution if Ferrari is to triumph at Monza. ‘If there’s one track we can afford to maybe compromise a little bit Qualifying compared to the race, it’s this one,’ he said. However, he stressed that making the car faster will be beneficial for both qualifying and the race.
The Monegasque driver drew parallels with their recent performances at Silverstone and Spa, where they had good weekends despite not being in the best position. ‘Silverstone and Spa weren’t meant to be positive for us and we had a good weekend, but by having a perfect execution,’ he recalled. ‘We need to target that here.’
The Emotional Connection to Monza
For Leclerc, racing in Italy is always a special experience. ‘Italy has always been very special for me,’ he shared. ‘I kind of grew up here through my karting career, I was very much living with my mechanics here, and so I have a very special connection with Italy and the people.’
The support of the Tifosi adds an extra layer of motivation for Leclerc. ‘To be racing with Ferrari in Italy is already a special experience, but even more so for me,’ he added. ‘I just really hope we can convert all that positive excitement into a victory on Sunday.’
