The Dream of the Desert train was unveiled at the international tourism event Tourise. This initiative results from strategic partnerships with the Saudi Tourism Authority and the Tourism Development Fund. These collaborations demonstrate a commitment to combining Italian expertise with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious tourism development plans, as outlined in its Vision 2030 initiative.
Focusing on an experiential tourism model, the Dream of the Desert aims to merge luxury with cultural significance and sustainability. The project showcases Italian craftsmanship, with construction taking place in esteemed locations such as Brindisi and Bergamo.
Luxurious accommodations
The train consists of fourteen lavish carriages, accommodating a maximum of 66 guests. It features 31 suites and 2 royal suites. Architect Aline Asmar d’Amman and her firm, Culture in Architecture, designed the interiors to seamlessly blend Italian design elegance with traditional Saudi hospitality. Each carriage functions as a mobile art gallery, highlighting materials and decorations that reflect Saudi heritage while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
Embark on thematic journeys
Travelers can select from five carefully curated itineraries that showcase various facets of the Saudi landscape and culture. One route, The Northern Sands, spans three days, taking passengers from Riyadh to Al Jouf. Along the journey, guests will encounter ancient fortresses and prehistoric rock engravings, culminating in a magical night under a starlit desert sky.
Another itinerary, titled A Taste of AlUla, contrasts the vibrant modernity of the capital with the rich historical tapestry of the AlUla region. This journey concludes with bespoke experiences developed in collaboration with the AlUla Destination team.

During significant periods, such as the holy month of Ramadan, the train offers unique experiences like Ramadan Nights, where guests can enjoy traditional iftar and suhoor meals against the tranquil desert backdrop, followed by stargazing sessions. For summer travelers, Summer Mirage presents an enticing two-day round trip from Riyadh, highlighting the desert’s allure during warmer months with gourmet dining and themed events.

The Dream of the Desert train serves not only as a mode of transportation but also as a narrative journey covering approximately 1,300 kilometers. It weaves Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage into every aspect of the travel experience.
