Italy shines with two top awards
Rome Fiumicino Airport continued its reign as Europe’s top airport in the over 40 million passengers category. The judges praised its relentless focus on innovation and predictive, AI-driven operational model. Described as an excellent airport that never stops Fiumicino’s commitment to passenger experience keeps it at the forefront of Europe’s mega-hubs.
Venice Marco Polo Airport also made its mark, winning in the 10-25 million passengers category. The airport leveraged the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a catalyst for lasting improvements, embedding new practices into its everyday operations and creating a legacy of high performance and inclusive design.
Innovation and sustainability take center stage
The Digital Transformation Award went to Helsinki Airport for its advanced digital platform that has improved efficiency and operational resilience. The system has been so successful that it has been scaled across 20 airports, setting a new standard for digital transformation in the industry.
Stuttgart Airport took home the Eco-Innovation Award for its holistic approach to green operations. The airport achieved a remarkable 97.6% reduction in apron fleet CO2 emissions showcasing its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
The HR Excellence Award was awarded to Vasil Levski Sofia Airport for its strategic use of artificial intelligence in human resources management. The airport’s innovative approach to workforce development and employee experience set a new benchmark for the industry.
Smaller airports make a big impact
Wrocław Airport in Poland won the award for the best airport under 5 million passengers. Despite significant construction works and hosting a major international event, the airport delivered record passenger traffic and impressive service quality. Its advanced baggage handling system and unique environmental programs, including a bee and honey apiary project, stood out to the judges.
Riga International Airport was recognized as the best airport in the 5-10 million passengers category. The airport’s commitment to technology investment and strategic execution allowed it to compete with larger peers, showcasing its dynamic development and promising future.
Vienna International Airport secured the award in the 25-40 million passengers category. The airport’s advanced data-driven model, including AI gate allocation and real-time dashboards, contributed to its top-tier operational performance and passenger satisfaction.
