Saturday: A Perfect Day for Outdoor Activities

Saturday is shaping up to be an ideal day for outdoor plans, whether you’re celebrating Juneteenth or simply enjoying the weekend. The day will start with decreasing clouds and lows dropping into the mid to upper 50s. By afternoon, highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s under partly cloudy skies, with light winds coming from the northwest.

Evening temperatures will remain mild, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. However, clouds will begin to increase throughout the night, and scattered showers will start moving in from the west after 4 AM, setting the stage for Sunday’s weather.

Father’s Day: Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

By dawn on Sunday, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, with showers moving into western parts of the viewing area. Throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, rain with a few rumbles of thunder will spread across eastern Iowa from west to east, leading to a wet Father’s Day.

The highest rainfall totals are expected along and south of Interstate 80, where as much as 1 to 3 inches could fall. Across the rest of the area, amounts will generally range from a quarter inch to an inch, with lighter amounts the farther north you go. Clouds and rain will keep temperatures cooler, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Showers and any isolated storms will begin to diminish late in the afternoon and evening. While a few spotty showers may linger into Sunday night, coverage will be much less widespread. Dry conditions are expected to return by Monday morning, with lows falling into the mid to upper 50s.

Looking Ahead: More Storm Chances Next Week

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be dry with partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid to upper 70s, and lows in the mid 50s to near 60. However, another chance of scattered showers and storms is on the horizon for Tuesday night through the end of the week as a few disturbances are expected to pass by the area.

The timing and track of these disturbances remain uncertain, so it’s important to stay updated with the latest forecasts. Confidence remains high, however, in temperatures continuing to run near or slightly below normal through the end of next week. Highs are expected to reach the 70s to near 80, with lows falling into the 50s and 60s.
