The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced several freeway closures and restrictions for the weekend of June 26-29, 2026. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just commuting around the Valley, it’s crucial to stay informed about these changes to avoid delays.
With the summer heat intensifying and the Fourth of July holiday approaching, many residents are expected to hit the roads. ADOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time and use detour routes as needed. Remember, restrictions are subject to change due to weather or other factors, so always check for the latest updates.
Major Freeway Closures and Detours
Here’s a breakdown of the major closures and recommended detours for the weekend:
State Route 51 Northbound
The northbound State Route 51 will be closed between the Interstate 10 “Mini-Stack” interchange and Indian School Road from 9 p.m. Friday, June 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 29. This closure is for a pavement improvement project.
All I-10 and Loop 202 ramps to northbound SR 51 will also be closed. ADOT recommends using northbound Interstate 17 as an alternate route to north Phoenix. Other detour options include 16th, 24th, and 32nd streets.
Loop 202 Santan Freeway
In Chandler, the eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed between Alma School and Cooper roads from 10 p.m. Friday, June 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 29. This closure is part of an ongoing widening project.

After the full closure lifts, southbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to four lanes from 4 a.m. Sunday, June 28, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 29. Drivers should expect possible on- and off-ramp closures in the area during that window.
In a separate project, the northbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed between Broadway Road and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway interchange from 9 p.m. Friday, June 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 29.
