As the weekend approaches, drivers in the Valley should be aware of several road closures and construction projects that may impact their travel plans. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced restrictions and closures that will be in effect from Friday evening through early Monday morning. Here’s what you need to know to plan your routes accordingly.
Whether you’re heading out for a leisurely drive, running errands, or commuting, these updates will help you avoid unexpected delays and find alternative routes. From pavement improvements to widening projects, ADOT is working to enhance the infrastructure, but these efforts come with temporary disruptions.
Northbound State Route 51 closure
The northbound State Route 51 will be closed between the I-10 “Mini-Stack” interchange and Colter Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, July 13. This closure is part of a pavement improvement project. All I-10 and Loop 202 ramps to northbound SR 51 will also be closed during this time.
To navigate around this closure, consider using northbound Interstate 17 as an alternate freeway route to north Phoenix. Other detour routes include 16th, 24th, and 32nd streets. These alternatives should help you reach your destination with minimal delays.
Eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closure
The eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be closed between McQueen and Lindsay roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, July 13. This closure is for a widening project. Eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Dobson Road, Alma School Road, and Arizona Avenue will also be closed.
For this closure, consider using eastbound Pecos or Germann roads as alternate routes to travel beyond the closure. These roads should provide a smooth detour and help you avoid the construction zone.
Southbound Loop 101 (Pima/Price freeways) closure
The southbound Loop 101 (Pima/Price freeways) will be closed between McKellips Road and University Drive from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, July 13. This closure is also part of a pavement improvement project. East- and westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramps to southbound Loop 101 will be closed, as well as southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Indian School, Thomas, and McDowell roads.
To navigate around this closure, consider exiting ahead of the closure and using local routes, including southbound Hayden Road/McClintock Drive to reach westbound Loop 101 or to travel beyond the closure. These local routes should help you bypass the construction and reach your destination efficiently.
By staying informed about these closures and planning your routes in advance, you can ensure a smoother and more enjoyable weekend drive. Safe travels!
