Last week, three generations of a family came together to celebrate a milestone birthday at Jamberoo Action Park. Ranging in age from 4 to 68, the family anticipated a day filled with laughter, adventure, and splashes. They chose the perfect weather for their visit to this renowned water park, staying in a cozy Airbnb in nearby Shell Cove while watching the sunny skies.
Located just south of Wollongong in the serene countryside of Jamberoo, the park provides a delightful escape surrounded by picturesque landscapes and grazing cows. As a family-owned establishment for over 45 years, Jamberoo Action Park holds a special place in their history. My daughter had long wished to visit but never had the chance during her childhood.

During their visit, the family was fortunate to attend on Senior’s Day, allowing them to purchase tickets at a significantly reduced price. For just $15, they enjoyed entry, a complimentary cup of tea or coffee, and a scone—an unbeatable deal. My daughter joked about wishing she could also take advantage of the senior discount.
One appealing feature of the park is its permissive policy regarding outside food and drinks (excluding alcohol). The family brought beach chairs and supplies for a lovely picnic, and the park offered ample dining options, ensuring no guest went hungry. Despite the bustling visitors, they hardly experienced long waits for the rides, contributing to an enjoyable atmosphere.
Riding the Waves
After signing a waiver at the entrance, they found that parking and all rides were included in the entry fee. Friendly staff and lifeguards stationed at every ride ensured a safe environment for guests. They began their day by taking the chairlift to the mountain’s peak, where they were reminded of the strict dress code requiring proper attire, including covered shoulders and footwear. My grandchildren, aware of my slight fear of heights, checked on my comfort—thoughtful little ones.
At the summit, they could either take the chairlift back down or try the exhilarating bobsled ride. Embracing my inner adventurer, I chose the bobsled despite my fluttering nerves. The children rode with their parents, starting on the gentler green track. Interestingly, Jamberoo Action Park initially began as a grass skiing venue, making the bobsled one of its original attractions.
A thrilling experience
As I navigated the bobsled’s twists and turns, I earned the title of Captain Slow from my family for my cautious pace. Approaching a curve marked “Slow Down,” I chuckled at the irony. The thrill of controlling my speed added to the fun.
Next, we ventured to The Taipan, a high-speed water slide that I decided to try against my better judgment. The kids loved this ride—the dark, twisty tube mimicked the movements of Australia’s deadliest snake, offering an adrenaline rush like no other. Their delighted shrieks echoed through the ride, and my family eagerly anticipated going again. It quickly became one of my favorites.
Water adventures for everyone
Jamberoo Action Park caters to guests of all ages, with separate water play areas for younger children and thrilling attractions like the Rapid River, where we floated along in inflatable rafts, navigating gentle rapids and small waterfalls. I found this ride to be the perfect blend of excitement and relaxation, and we eagerly returned for multiple rounds.
In addition to these attractions, the park features numerous water slides, including the Funnel Web, The Rock for daring jumps, and the renowned Perfect Storm ride, which I opted not to try but was tempted by its thrilling description. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and joy, reminding us that age is merely a number when it comes to having a good time.
