Upon arriving in Brussels on a Friday evening, I was pleasantly surprised by my hotel, the Dominican. This accommodation provided a much-needed upgrade from my previous stay in Amsterdam. Conveniently located near major attractions, my hotel allowed for easy exploration of the city. With only one day in Brussels, I quickly realized the importance of prioritizing my time.
One of the most iconic spots in Brussels is the Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Surrounded by stunning Guildhouses, this central plaza captivates visitors with its ornate designs and historical significance. A leisurely stroll through the square is recommended, where one can admire the beautiful architecture and visit St Nicholas Church for a moment of tranquility.
Must-see attractions in Brussels
While exploring Brussels, do not miss the famous Manneken Pis, a cheeky statue of a little boy urinating, which has become a symbol of the city’s humor. This statue, often dressed in various costumes donated by admirers, is located just a short walk from the Grand Place. Additionally, keep an eye out for his sister, Jeanakke Pis, and the Zinneke, a urinating dog statue that enhances the city’s quirky charm.
If you are a chocolate lover, Brussels is a paradise waiting to be explored. Although I missed some delightful chocolate-making tours, I urge you not to make the same mistake. The Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert is a must-visit shopping arcade brimming with chocolate shops, each offering an array of delicious treats.

On my second day, I embarked on a guided tour from Brussels to Bruges and Ghent, both just a short journey away. While some travelers choose to visit Bruges directly from Amsterdam, I found it more convenient to base my explorations out of Brussels, particularly with guided tour options available.
Bruges, often referred to as the “Venice of the North,” is a picturesque city filled with canals. A canal boat tour is a fantastic way to soak in the beauty of the city.
