The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has placed much of Maryland under an isolated risk for severe weather. Meteorologist Dalencia Jenkins warns that the rain could be particularly heavy, especially in Harford County where the ground is already saturated from recent rainfall. This saturation increases the risk of flash flooding.
Understanding Alert Days and Impact Days
The WBAL-TV 11 Weather Team uses specific terms to alert residents about upcoming weather conditions. An Impact Day is when weather is likely to disrupt daily routines, while an Alert Day indicates a threat of extreme, severe, and possibly life-threatening weather.
With the current forecast, Maryland is facing an Impact Day, meaning residents should be prepared for potential disruptions to their normal activities. The heavy rain and thunderstorms could lead to power outages, as tree limbs may fall onto power lines and other electric delivery equipment.

The latest outage information, including the total number and general locations of outages, is available on the BGE outage map. BGE reminds residents that fallen overhead power lines should never be approached or touched, even if they do not appear to be live or sparking. To report fallen electrical lines, power outages, and gas odors, residents should call BGE at 877-778-2222.
Looking Ahead: A Break in the Storms
While Saturday is expected to be a challenging day, Sunday will bring a break from the storms. However, the humidity will remain high. Meteorologist Justin Chambers notes that highs will be well into the 90s again on Sunday, with dew point temperatures climbing once more on Monday.
Chambers advises that the feels-like temperatures will be well into the triple digits on Monday afternoon. Despite the heat, Sunday is expected to be a good day for outdoor activities, such as golfing, as long as residents stay hydrated. The weather conditions will also be favorable for grilling.
Looking further ahead, cooler and drier conditions are expected for the end of the week and into next weekend, providing some relief from the current heat and humidity.
