The IndyCar series is set to electrify the streets of Markham, Ontario this August with a thrilling new addition to the 2026 calendar. As the series continues its tradition of high-speed racing in Canada, fans can look forward to an action-packed weekend filled with intense competition and breathtaking maneuvers.
This year marks the inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham a 90-lap spectacle on a brand-new 2.19-mile street circuit designed by renowned track architect Tony Cotman. The event promises to deliver the same excitement that has made Canadian races some of the most memorable in the sport’s history.
The Markham street circuit: A new challenge for drivers
The new circuit features a unique double-sided pit lane, reminiscent of the one introduced in Detroit in 2026, as well as a challenging Turn 5 hairpin and a long run to Turn 6. The grandstand, positioned outside Turn 3, offers spectators a prime view of the action as cars charge into a 90-degree left-hand turn. With 12 turns in total, the circuit is designed to test the skills of even the most experienced drivers.
Markham, a city with a rich history dating back to the late 1700s, is home to over 350,000 residents and serves as the Canadian base for numerous multinational corporations. The city’s vibrant atmosphere and enthusiastic fan base are sure to create an unforgettable experience for both drivers and spectators alike.
Weekend schedule: Don’t miss a moment of the action
The excitement kicks off on Friday, August 14 with the first practice session at 3:00 PM EST, broadcast on FOX SPORTS 2. The action continues on Saturday, August 15 with another practice session at 10:00 AM EST, followed by qualifying at 2:25 PM EST on FOX SPORTS 1.

The race will be broadcast live on FOX in the United States and TSN in Canada. For those who prefer to stream, the race will be available on FOX ONE with in-car cameras on HBO MAX. Additionally, live radio coverage will be provided by IndyCar Radio.
Championship drama and standout performers
With the championship battle heating up, all eyes will be on series points leader Alex Palou who has already secured six wins this season. Palou’s impressive track record on street circuits, with victories in St. Petersburg, Long Beach, and Detroit, makes him a strong contender for the Markham race. However, he faces stiff competition from Kyle Kirkwood who sits just 110 points behind in the standings.
Other notable drivers to watch include Will PowerScott Dixon and Josef Newgarden all of whom have a history of success on Canadian tracks. With the addition of the new Markham circuit and the upcoming Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., the 2026 IndyCar season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.
As the series continues to evolve and introduce new challenges, one thing is certain: the IndyCar race in Markham is an event not to be missed. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the sport, the high-speed action and thrilling competition are sure to leave you on the edge of your seat.
