The incident occurred around midnight on Mansfield Road and Hearne Avenue where the victims’ vehicle crashed into an abandoned bowling alley. Surveillance footage revealed a chilling scene: an individual approaching the crashed vehicle and firing multiple rounds before fleeing.
The Deadly Afternoon Shooting Near Jewella Avenue
Later on Saturday afternoon, another shooting near a Shell station on Jewella Avenue and Greenwood Road resulted in the death of Jamarcus Fisher and critical injuries to a second person. Police reports indicate that the shooting followed a fight at the gas station. Investigators are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the suspects captured on surveillance video.
Domestic Violence Turns Fatal on Corbitt Street
Sunday morning brought another tragic incident on Corbitt Street where Stemond Scott was stabbed to death following a domestic dispute. Police arrested Gabrielle Mitchell Scott’s girlfriend, charging her with second-degree murder. Mitchell fled the scene with three children after the stabbing. This incident marks the 34th homicide in Shreveport this year, highlighting the ongoing issue of domestic violence in the community.
The Rise of Domestic Violence in Shreveport
Valencia Jones a domestic violence survivor and founder of a private therapy practice, emphasized the severity of the situation. “We are in crisis,” Jones stated, noting that Louisiana consistently ranks among the top states for domestic violence-related homicides. The Shreveport City Council approved the Caddo Coordinated Response Model in May, a collaborative effort to provide comprehensive support for survivors and hold offenders accountable.
The Final Tragedy at Sunset Acres Park
Sunday afternoon saw another fatal shooting at Sunset Acres Park where Jayve’us Williams a 19-year-old, was found dead in a field. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and have not yet identified a suspect. The community is left to grapple with the loss of another young life to gun violence.
