The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has initiated a nationwide weekend of action to address the affordability crisis affecting American families. With more than 200 events planned across the country, the Stuff Costs Too Much campaign aims to engage voters and hold Republicans accountable for rising costs.
From June 27 to June 29, 2026 Democratic volunteers, organizers, and campaign staff will participate in various activities, including door-to-door canvassingvoter registration drivescommunity meetings and service events. The goal is to have nearly 10,000 conversations with working families about the challenges they face due to escalating prices.
Key initiatives and events
The weekend of action features a variety of initiatives designed to reach and engage voters on affordability issues. One of the highlights is an organizer bootcamp led by Gov. Michelle Luján Grisham which will train 150 new organizers to join campaigns this cycle.
Additionally, voter registration drives will target shift workers and gig workers at strategic locations such as grocery stores, laundromats, gas stations, and transit stops. These efforts aim to register voters where they are most likely to be affected by rising costs.
Door knocking and community engagement
Door knocking and block walking will take place in critical and overlooked areas throughout the country. Special guests, including Democratic nominees for various offices, will join canvasses in states like NevadaArizonaPennsylvania and Wisconsin. These efforts are designed to listen to voters’ concerns and share Democratic efforts to make life more affordable.
Phone banking and service events
Phone banking will be conducted in communities across the country, focusing on districts with competitive U.S. House races. Volunteers will discuss the impact of rising gas prices and other affordability issues with voters. Service events, such as community food drives and park cleanups, will also take place in battleground states, providing opportunities to meet and engage with voters.
Addressing the affordability crisis
DNC Chair Ken Martin emphasized the urgency of addressing the affordability crisis, stating, “From groceries and gas to healthcare, childcare, rent, and utilities, everything costs too damn much under Donald Trump and the Republicans.” He highlighted the need to stop Republicans in the upcoming elections to alleviate the financial burden on working families.
The affordability crisis has been compounded by various factors, including reckless tariffs, the war in Iran, and the gutting of healthcare programs. The average household has had to spend at least $3,100 more under Republican policies, with significant increases in groceries, gas, electricity, and housing costs.
National activation call
A national activation call will focus on the impact of Trump’s failing economy on Black workers. The call will feature prominent figures such as Cleveland Mayor Justin BibbCollective PAC Founder and President Quentin James and Black Men Vote Executive Director Michael Bland. This initiative aims to address the disproportionate effects of the affordability crisis on marginalized communities.
Building on previous efforts
The Stuff Costs Too Much Weekend of Action builds on the DNC’s ongoing efforts to engage communities and register voters. Earlier this year, the DNC launched When We Count a campaign to register and mobilize the next generation of Democratic voters. The DNC also published The Playbook an actionable guide to help build winning campaigns, and initiated the NextWave Regional Bootcamp the largest-ever in-person campaign training program.
Additionally, the DNC spearheaded Local Listeners a voter contact initiative to engage over one million infrequent voters across key congressional districts and states. These efforts demonstrate the DNC’s commitment to addressing the affordability crisis and mobilizing voters for the upcoming elections.
