When considering a trip to Las Vegas, many envision extravagant parties and bustling crowds. However, for those less inclined toward the nightlife scene, the question arises: what else does this vibrant city offer? Recently, a group of friends embarked on a getaway to celebrate a birthday, discovering recommendations for a glamorous weekend in Las Vegas, particularly for women in their 40s.
This guide emphasizes a more refined approach to experiencing Las Vegas—a grown-up girls’ weekend. If the typical party vibe doesn’t resonate with you, there are plenty of activities that cater to a sophisticated taste.
Choosing the right accommodation
Location is key when planning your stay in Las Vegas. While it is possible to find accommodation off the Strip and use ride-sharing services to navigate the city, opting for a hotel on the Strip places you in the heart of the action. For our stay, we chose The Fontainebleau, a newly opened hotel that boasts spacious rooms and an array of dining and entertainment options. Being on the 57th floor allowed us to enjoy stunning views, although its location at one end of the Strip can make walking to nearby attractions a bit tricky.
For those looking for alternatives, consider these options: The Wynn, The Bellagio, and Aria, which offers a central location and a great blend of affordability and quality accommodations. Each of these hotels presents a unique atmosphere and amenities, perfect for a stylish stay.
The proximity of the airport to the Strip means that a quick ride via Uber or Lyft can whisk you away to your hotel in no time. During our trip, we found ourselves walking extensively—one day, we logged an impressive 15,000 steps exploring the various hotel properties along the Strip. Additionally, the city features a convenient monorail system that can efficiently take you to the main attractions.
Transportation tips
While renting a car may seem appealing, it is not particularly necessary if you’re staying within the Strip. Parking fees can be exorbitant, and the ride-share options are much more practical. However, if you plan on venturing outside the city for day trips, renting a vehicle can be beneficial. Just be prepared for a rather convoluted process when returning your rental at the airport, as it involves multiple steps.
Dressing for the occasion
One of the joys of visiting Las Vegas is the opportunity to embrace a more glamorous wardrobe. Preparing for this trip posed a challenge, as my typical style leans towards classic simplicity rather than the bold, extravagant looks often seen in Vegas. However, I managed to curate a selection of outfits that blended style with comfort, making sure to include glamorous dresses for evening outings and chic daytime attire suitable for brunches.
Wardrobe essentials
Consider packing a mix of outfits: a sparkling minidress for upscale dinners, stylish jeans paired with a sequined jacket for less formal evenings, and bright, flowy daytime outfits that evoke a breezy vibe. Don’t forget comfortable footwear, as you’ll be doing plenty of walking! Accessorizing with statement jewelry and bold makeup can elevate your look without breaking the bank.
Experience the best of Las Vegas
Now, let’s dive into the activities that make for an unforgettable girls’ weekend. First and foremost, indulge in the culinary scene—brunch is a must! We enjoyed our first meal at Spago, where the view of the Bellagio fountains added a delightful touch to our dining experience. Another highlight was brunch at Bardot, where the vibrant atmosphere and live music made for an enjoyable outing.
Exploring the various resorts is also a delightful way to spend your day. Each hotel boasts unique decor, and a leisurely stroll through them can be an adventure in itself. Of all the resorts we visited, the Bellagio was particularly stunning, showcasing seasonal displays that capture the essence of Las Vegas.
